SUPERMARKETS AND SHOPPING
As well as The Metro supermarket in Nabq, there is also a branch near Old Sharm.
A Carrefour Hypermarket is in Naama and is also excellent.
Whilst in the Old Town I like to stock up fruit and veg from stalls in the market.
It’s fun wandering the lanes and alley ways, and there’s loads of atmosphere.
Buy your Arabic bread hot from the ovens.
Why not spend a day on Terrazzina Beach, by the Old Town, and then mooch around the market before enjoying a great meal in one of the fabulous local restaurants. (Two of my favourites are El Masrien, good cheap local food, and Fares, wonderful seafood. A list of my favourite places to eat is in the folder in the apartment).
You’ll be spoilt at the choice of shops, too, from designer –labels to Bedouin crafts.
Enjoy haggling for spices, Sheeshas (Hubble-Bubble pipes), pashminas, jewellery, perfumes, papyrus and beautiful glasswear and souvenirs. Shopkeepers will try and entice you into their shops, and can be quite persistent, please do not be offended by this.
However, if you’re not interested in looking or buying be polite but firm. And remember to haggle!!
Egyptians love this kind of banter so enter into the spirit of it and have fun.
